Once upon a time not so long ago in the land of Coquitlam BC, 4 brothers emerged from the Smalley clan. These brothers had music born and bred into them since the beginning. Derek started playing his guitar at 6 years old and the younger siblings all followed suit.
Charming audiences from a very young age, this family band was on the road starting in 1991 for a provincial wide tour of festivals called Music 91'. The kids continued to develop their stage show by performing hundreds of shows at schools, shopping malls, festivals and television variety shows.
During highschool and Capilano University Jazz Studies, the family band went on to start their own funk band F-Jam. With this project the band started writing and recording their own songs to produce two full length CD's distributed by Inde Pool. This landed them a slot opening for Love Inc. at Peachfest and on multiple television appearances including The Jim Byrnes Show, 'V', Up and Coming, Eye On The Street, and VTV Breakfast Show. They also were nominated for a West Coast Music Award and performed at the ceremony.
18 years has passed by and the brother band goes on as (or-gan’ik), performing live genre-breaking music. They have shared the stage with such acts as Del The Funky Homosapian, Maestro Fresh West, Loverboy, Cheap Trick, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Glass Tiger. (or-gan’ik) has also collaborated on tracks with local artists Kia Kadiri, Checkmate and Concise and have used their years of experience to help develop local upcoming artists in their community.
In 2007 (or-gan’ik) wanted to spread a special message of sustainability to as many fans as possible and bring people together through communication to build a future of change.
With that in mind the band headed out on the Cross Country Canada Tour, bringing along HT Naturals organic cotton and bamboo clothing stamped with (or-gan’ik) logos. The band was also selling their music through the iTunes music store to cut down on plastic petroleum products. While in Montreal, (or-gan'ik) produced a demonstration video for 'Oil Lift'; a non-toxic green cleaning product, which was posted on the companies Youtube Channel. While on tour, CBC Radio 3 featured (or-gan’ik) on their “green” episode podcast. The Sierra Youth Coalition hired the band for their annual Sustainable Campus Conference with hundreds of their representatives from colleges all over Canada attending the 3 day event at Western U. The Cross Country Canada Tour proved to be a great way to connect with like-minded people all across the country.
Since early 2008, (or-gan'ik) has recorded their latest album 'The Band' at Maximus Sound and focused their attention on reaching out to international markets.
